CLE Combating Wage Theft in Colorado: Administrative Pathways to Redress

A fifty minute presentation with ten minutes for questions.  The presentation will describe the administrative process for adjudicating wage theft complaints pursuant to the CO Wage Protection Act of 2014 at the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE).  This presentation will cover the CDLEs jurisdiction over wage theft complaints, preparation of an initial complaint, timelines for CDLE action and employer response, employer fines, CDLE Compliance Officer investigations, CDLE determinations (including penalties), enforcement and collection of judgments, appeals to a CDLE Hearing Officer, powers of the Hearing Officer, format of hearings, and appealing the Hearing Officer's decision in the District Court. I will close the presentation by describing the Towards Justice pro bono attorney network, which recruits attorneys interested in representing low-wage, immigrant victims of wage theft before the CDLE
