Join Towards Justice at the MAFO Colorado Agriculture and Farm Labor Summit.

Attorney Alex Hood will be presenting on: How Towards Justice Uses Impact Litigation to Advance Shepherd Rights

Shepherds are some of the lowest paid workers in America – earning between $2 and $5 dollars per hour depending on the state in which they work. Most shepherds come to this country on H-2A visas from Peru, Mexico, Nepal and other countries. Shepherds work is some of the most startling working conditions in our country, often without running water, heat, or other necessities. Towards Justice and our shepherd clients are working to address these challenges through the legal system, challenging the government for its role in allowing stagnation of shepherd wages, challenging industry actors for alleged collusion to keep shepherd wages low, failure to pay minimum wage, work requirements beyond the scope of shepherding, and the failure to reimburse shepherds for required expenses. This presentation will describe the four separate class action cases that Towards Justice is litigating on shepherds’ behalf in Washington D.C., Colorado, Nevada and Texas, and describe ways that your organization can get involved in protecting shepherd rights.
